The Lighting Market in Dallas, TX is the place where we (lighting professionals) disappear to for a week each January to see the latest and greatest in the lighting industry. And, this year was no exception. In the near future there will be many changes in the way we light our spaces; new energy regulations, new product labels, new products and new light sources. Our goal is to keep you informed during the transition; we will be posting updated information frequently so please check back.

New FTC Labels
Posted on January 11th, 2011 in category "New"
New year, new labels! Start looking for the new Light Bulb labels. The new FTC labeling officially goes into effect July 2011, however, many manufacturers are using them now. We will soon be going to the store to buy 820 lumen bulbs instead of 60 watts.
Under the new rule, the back of each package of light bulbs will have a “Lighting Facts” label; the Lighting Facts label will provide information about:
• energy cost;
• the bulb’s life expectancy;
• light appearance (for example, if the bulb provides “warm” or “cool” light);
• wattage (the amount of energy the bulb uses); and
• whether the bulb contains mercury.
